Common Names: Ribbon Grass, Reed Canary Grass, Gardener's Garters
 
Description:  Phalaris arundinacea (Ribbon Grass) is a member of the Poaceae (Grass Family). The Hortus Kewensis, ed. 2, vol. 1, p. 137-138 reported six species of Phalaris but not arundinacea though it was known in Europe at the time.  It is native to Europe, Asia, north Africa, and North America.  It occurs both in the striped version shown and in a solid green version.
