Description: Cocos nucifera (Coconut) is a member of the Palm Tree Family (Arecaceae). The Hortus Kewensis, ed. 2, vol. 5, p. 279 recorded that this plant is native to the East Indies and was introduced into cultivation in Britain (presumably in hothouse cultivation)  in 1690.
