Common Names: Scabiosa, Pincushion flower

Description: Scabiosa sp. (Scabiosa) is a member of the Honeysuckle Family (Caprifoliaceae). The Hortus Kewensis, ed. 2, vol. 1, pp. 224-231 recorded thirty-one species of Scabiosa. Given that the plant illustrated on the textile is part of a field of wildflowers, it is possibly the British native Scabiosa columbarica, the Dwarf Pincushion flower.
