Common Names: Dwarf Iris

Description: Iris pumila (Dwarf Iris) is a member of the Iris Family (Iridaceae). The Hortus Kewensis, ed. 2, vol. 1 recorded that this native of Austria, was introduced into cultivation in Britain in 1596. The botanical illustration is so similar to the first motif it is likely that one must have been copied from the other or that both may have been inspired by an illustration not yet located.
